A few days ago the Memphis Tigers picked up a big transfer when CorMontae Hamilton tweeted out that he was coming home to play for his hometown team.

Hamilton was a 2019 4-star Tight End coming out of Whitehaven High School with offers from nearly all the big time P5 schools. He ultimately chose Ohio State.

While at Ohio State they moved him to defensive line. He's mentioned he would like to play Tight End again. At the time he put his name into the transfer portal he wasn't sure which direction he would go. He'd be open to any and all schools who were interested.

Memphis was one of many schools that reached out. He already had a relationship built with newly minted DC Matt Barnes. Barnes was an assistant at Ohio State when Hamilton was there.

"Coach Barnes and I would talk at practice at Ohio State. He would tell me I had a good practice and other encouraging words."

It was Coach Barnes and Coach Silverfield who reached out to Hamilton about coming to Memphis. He came to check out one of the Spring Practices and enjoyed what he saw. Hamilton and the coaching staff continued to build a bond and Hamilton felt like coming home was the right thing to do.

One thing that stood out to him was the opportunity to be a hometown hero like Anthony Miller, Calvin Austin, and Tony Pollard.

"I took time and prayed about it and my heart was leaning towards Memphis. I thought about my family, my friends, and the bond that I had back at home and knowing I can make an impact with the Tigers. I was excited. With the ability that I have I'm excited to be another hometown hero."

It means a lot to Hamilton that his family and friends can take a short ride to watch him play in person.

He's real excited to play with his friends too. Hamilton and Tevin Carter played for the same little league team and now they'll be college teammates. While at Whitehaven he got to scrimmage against Rodrigues Clark when he was at Starkville. He's also trained with Greg Rubin in the past.

Hamilton wants to be a leader on this defense and be as dominant as he possibly can. Memphis fans would love if he turned out to be the next Dontari Poe or Martin Ifedi.

Hamilton is expected to enroll in May.
