It wasn’t pretty but they did what they came to do, win.

Memphis (5-0, 2-0 American Athletic Conference) defeated South Florida 24-17 to remain undefeated.

The Tigers once again started of slow and got themselves into a 10-0 hole before clawing their way back.

After allowing 10 points on the first 2 USF drives, Memphis forced the Bulls to 7 straight punts.

The highflying Tiger offense struggled to score at the pace they were used to. The Tigers were averaging 53 points per game but the Bulls defense proved to be a worthy opponent.

Grades-

Offense, C

I know the Bulls had the 2nd best defense in the American Conference but the Tigers didn’t look like themselves. Could the short weeks for the past 2 games made the team tired? Possible. Were they looking ahead to Ole Miss? Possible. Will they need to play better to have a chance against the Rebels? Definitely. I didn’t like the overly used option on 3rd downs.

Defense, B+

After the first two drives the Memphis fans got that sick feeling in their stomach and thought, “Here we go again…” But that didn’t last as the Tigers defense took care of business for the rest of the game. They still gave up some big plays but compared to the last 2 games, you’ll take it. They have 2 weeks to get it right and get ready for Ole Miss.

Coaching, B

Not a bad game coaching wise for Memphis. They got the defense going and got the needed points for the win. To beat Ole Miss they will need to play much better. They coaching staff will work hard to make these two weeks the much-needed time to tighten up their game.
