Jackson (TN) Northside offensive tackle Izaiah Reed took an official visit to Memphis and said it was better than he imagined it would be.
The 3-star lineman told TigerSportsReport before the visit he was really looking forward to meeting the coaching staff in person and checking out the facilities. So how did the visit go?
"It was great! My favorite part was walking into the locker room and seeing the pictures and the uniforms...it was great," said Reed.
He wasn't just impressed with the locker room. He really enjoyed the weight room.
"The weight room was great. They have turf type field in there and I saw the new weights...it really looked great in there."
The primary recruiter for Reed is Coach Anthony Jones and Coach Jim Bridge is secondary. What was the relationship with them like for Reed?
"Coach Jones is a great guy. Meeting him in person for the first time was great. He gave off the same vibe as his text messages and calls and that's what stuck out to me."
You can't visit Memphis and not talk about the food.
"Memphis made sure we were fed well. We had breakfast every morning and then we had food from all over Memphis. We got to eat at Texas de Brazil and we also went to the Bass Pro Shop."
Memphis isn't far at all from Jackson and Reed said he liked the Tigers and Vols growing up.
He said he watched the Tigers this past season and can see himself playing on the offensive line for Memphis.
"I think their O-line is great. I met a few of the guys on my visit and they all have good personalities. Coach Bridge took us O-line recruits and coached us up a bit. He's a great coach for sure. It would be nice to be coached by a coach like him."
During the visit he got to try on the Memphis uni's. Which one did he try on?
"I got to try on the all black ones. I have to say though, I seen a couple of guys in the all whites and I kinda wished I would have picked the all whites."
His favorite helmet was the gray helmet with the Tiger stripes on it.
Reed plans on taking all of his visits before making a final choice on a school. As of now, he plans to visit Louisville next week and Florida at the end of July.
Some of the determining factors for him are the relationships with the coaches and players. That will go a long way to help him make a decision. That decision will most likely come in August.
Did this official visit to Memphis change his perception of the Tigers program?
"It changed a lot. The visit was way more than I expected because I have never been on campus before. It all felt right. It felt good. It was a good experience."
Reed said he definitely plans on going to some Memphis games this year to get the game day experience.
