Former Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch waited patiently as the picks started coming in at the 2016 NFL Draft.
26 picks into the draft Seattle was on the clock.
Their phones started ringing. Dallas, Kansas City, and Denver all were trying to trade up to draft Lynch.
Denver would be the one to seal the deal and with the 26th pick Lynch heard his name called. He couldn't hold it in as his emotions flowed.
The Broncos general manager John Elway was asked if Paxton was the guy they were targeting before the draft started and Elway said without hesitation, "Yes!"
"We started working the phones early today to see where we could slide in starting at 17 and finally we were able to do a deal with the Seahawks."
Lynch, 6-foot-7 244 lbs., couldn't have been drafted by a better organization.
His General Manager (John Elway) is a NFL Hall of Famer, his new Offensive Coordinator (Rick Dennison) has 21 years of coaching experience, and his new Head Coach (Gary Kubiak) has been a part of 4 Super Bowl winning teams.
Lynch threw for 8,863 yards and 59 touchdowns as a three-year starter at Memphis and now he will compete with NFL veteran Mark Sanchez for the starting job in the Mile High City.
What does Lynch think about getting drafted by Denver?
"I think I ended up at the best situation," Lynch told NFL.com
Michael Fabiano (fantasy football columnist) says Paxton Lynch could be the best fantasy rookie quarterback in 2016 if he starts as a rookie.
The Denver Broncos not only picked up a great quarterback, they also picked up some fans in the city of Memphis.
