The University of Memphis has filled their last coaching spot today by hiring former ULM Defensive Coordinator Troy Reffett.
This is the second time Coach Fuente has hired a coach away from ULM during his time here at Memphis. Back in 2012 when Fuente came to Memphis, he hired Coach Vance Vice from ULM to coach the Offensive Line.
When you take a look at the stats you'll see why hiring Coach Reffett was an easy decision.
Under Reffett's direction, ULM finished second this past season in the Sun Belt in total defense, allowing 373.2 yards per game. They also ranked 14th in the nation in passing defense allowing 189.9 yards per game.
Memphis was 62nd in the nation last year in passing defense allowing 228 yards per game.
Prior to joining the ULM staff, Reffett spent five seasons at New Mexico beginning in 2004 where he coached the Lobos cornerbacks -- he was promoted to defensive coordinator prior to the 2008 season.
Before New Mexico he spent 14 seasons at UTEP, including 2002 and `03 as the Miners' defensive coordinator under head coach Gary Nord. Reffett also tutored UTEP's cornerbacks and free safeties.
Reffett replaces Ryan Walters, who left to coach the safeties at Missouri.
