Mistakes cost Memphis

Just like last year’s game, the Tigers were down 14-0 early. Unlike last year’s game, the Tigers couldn’t pull off the upset.
Memphis had their chances but couldn’t capitalize on them. Mistakes did them in.
The Tigers were down 7-0 in the 1st when the Tigers were looking to drive down and tie the game up but Memphis quarterback Riley Ferguson threw a pick 6. It wasn’t really his fault do to the fact tight end Daniel Montiel didn’t turn around in time. 31 yards later Ole Miss was up 14-0.
The next missed opportunity was when Ole Miss was driving and within scoring range when Memphis defensive back Jahmahl Pardner dropped a sure interception.
A few plays later Ole Miss kicked a field goal and led 17-7.
Another missed opportunity was when Memphis was driving in Ole Miss territory and got it to the 14-yard line.
Sam Craft took a pitch and looked to throw it and after nearly getting sacked he threw the ball. Only problem it wasn’t past the line of scrimmage. Intentional grounding.
Now Memphis is faced with a 3rd and 27 from the 31. The next play Ferguson rolls to the left and gets hit from behind, fumbles and Ole Miss recovers.
8 plays later Ole Miss held a 24-7 lead.
Now Memphis must come out of the 2nd half laser focused to get back in this game.
Taking a timeout before the 2nd half kickoff didn’t help.
Ole Miss drove down the field but the Tiger D held them to a field goal.
Down 27-7, Memphis needed a response. The Tigers drive stalled but a gutsy 4th down fake punt was converted and sparked the offense. A few plays later, Memphis scored to cut the Rebels lead to 27-14.
Memphis forced a 3-and-out on Ole Miss’s next possession.
The Tigers started to feel the momentum turn their way and the Tigers scored on their next 2 possessions to cut the lead to 6.
The score was 27-21 in favor of the Rebels. Ole Miss quickly responded 2 touchdowns and they led 41-21.
Ole Miss was driving for another score but Memphis corner back Arthur Maulet had other plans. Maulet intercepted Chad Kelly in the end zone and gave Memphis a little bit of hope.
8 plays later Memphis scored on a Riley Ferguson keeper. There was 8:41 left and Memphis cut into the lead, 41-28.
Riley Ferguson ended the game 30-for-46 for 343 yards and 3 interceptions and 1 fumble.
Ole Miss responded when Eugene Brazley scored on a 32 yard run and Ole Miss led 48-28 and that’s how the game would end.
