No pressure on Memphis

This week's game is a big one against 16th ranked Ole Miss Rebels.
The Rebels are favored by 14.5 and the game is in Oxford. The pressure is on Ole Miss not to lose more than it is on Memphis to win.
"I know a lot of people have their eye on us but we're just trying to focus on ourselves and take one day at a time and one step at a time," Memphis quarterback Riley Ferguson said.
The Tigers players know this is a big challenge and opportunity for the Tigers to garner some national attention with a win but this game isn't the end all be all.
Sure, if you're Memphis, you want to win. You want to prove to people you are worthy of a power 5 status. That's all well and good but that doesn't get you a conference championship.
We say that to put this game in perspective. Memphis isn't feeling the pressure to win. They can go out and focus on what they need to do to win the game without the added pressure of needing the win.
Memphis corner back Chris Morley knows that, "We just have to continue to prepare and get better. It's not about them. It's about us. Whatever happens happen."
Ole Miss is expected to win. They also have the memory in the back of their minds of what happened last year.
“We went up there and got embarrassed last year,” Ole Miss defensive end John Youngblood said.
“It’s a day I really don’t want to remember,” Ole Miss tight end Evan Engram said.
The Tiger players have the luxury of not having those feelings or thoughts pop up in their minds when they play Saturday night.
Ole Miss, on the other hand, could have those thoughts creep in depending on how the game goes. Ole Miss has to worry about the effects of losing to Memphis, a non power 5 team, for the 2nd year in a row. Ole Miss has to worry about being dropped out of the top 25 if they lose.
What does Memphis have to worry about if they lose to Ole Miss?
Getting ready for conference play and trying to win a conference championship. This weeks game is a big game, but it won't determine anything in the American Conference Western Division.
