SMU got notification earlier today of its sanctions by the NCAA. The Mustangs are banned from the 2016 postseason. Larry Brown, who was charged with lack of Head Coach Control received a 9-game suspension. The Ponies will also lose 9 scholarships over the next three seasons. It was place on three year's probation overall.
The NCAA wrote that "The Head basketball Coach failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance within his program. He failed to report the violations when the administrative assistant committed academic fraud on behalf of the student-athlete and he initially lied to enforcement staff about his knowledge of potential violations."
SMU was also hit with recruiting sanctions including a reduction of recruiting days and phone calls allowed to prospects.
