The Tigers football spring practice begins this Thursday on March 16th. Over the next few day, we'll take a look a few positions leading up to spring practice.
The Competition
There is three quarterbacks on the roster for the spring. Returning starter Sr. Riley Ferguson, RS-Soph Brady Davis, and RS-Freshmen Davis Moore.
Memphis fans were a little worried when Paxton Lynch went to the NFL but Riley Ferguson quickly put them at ease. Ferguson had a great year throwing for 3,698 yards with 32 touchdowns.
The Rundown
There's not a worry when it comes to who will start for Memphis. The worry is what it behind him. Brady Davis is coming off of injury and David Moore hasn't shown he's ready to be a #1 just yet. In all fairness to Davis and Moore, they really haven't had the opportunity due to the solid play of Ferguson. True freshmen LaAndre Thomas will come in the fall but we don't think he'll play a factor this year and redshirt.
Who has the edge?
Again, there's no doubt who's the number 1. The spring practice will go a long way who will earn the back up role. Both Davis and Moore are mobile quarterbacks. Neither has the edge there. Davis has the edge when it comes to accuracy. The question is, will the injury to Davis knee affect him? Will he return to his formal form or will he be a little hesitant. If he's worried about his knee then Moore could sneak in and grab the back up roll.
Prediction
We think Brady Davis will return to form and earn the back up role.
