University of Memphis baseball announced its schedule for the 2023 season Tuesday afternoon. The 55-game slate features 31 home games at the newly renovated FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field. Opening day is scheduled for Feb. 17.against Samford, beginning an eight-game homestand to start the season.
“I think we put together a pretty competitive, non-conference schedule with a number of teams that are competitive in their leagues and have made multiple postseason appearances,” head baseball coach Kerrick Jackson said. “Going into our first year of trying to move the program in the right direction, I think when you look at our non-conference schedule and combine that with our conference schedule, we have put ourselves in position to have competitive depth from start to finish.”
A matchup with defending NCAA champion Ole Miss is scheduled for April 4 at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field and Memphis will travel to Oxford, Miss., for another matchup with the Rebels a week later on April 11. The Tigers will travel to Starkville, Miss., May 9 for another game against an SEC opponent with Mississippi State.
The Tigers will host four non-conference series at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field before opening conference play on the road March 31. Memphis begins its season hosting three games against Samford (Feb. 17-19), before welcoming Youngstown State to town for a four-game series that includes a double header (Feb. 24-26), Indiana State for a three-game series (March 10-12) and Oral Roberts for three games (March 24-26).
The Tigers will host four American Athletic Conference (AAC) opponents for home series including Cincinnati (April 6-8), Houston (April 21-23), South Florida (May 5-7) and Tulane (May 18-20). AAC road series for Memphis include matchups with Tulane (March 31-April 2), UCF (April 14-16), Wichita State (April 28-30) and East Carolina (May 12-14).
Additional mid-week opponents for Memphis at home this season include Mississippi Valley State (Feb. 22), UA-Little Rock (March 21), Arkansas State (March 22), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (March 28) and UT Martin (April 25).
Postseason action is slated to begin with the AAC Tournament (May 23-28). The NCAA Regional and Super Regional rounds are scheduled for the first two weeks in June before the College World Series takes place June 16-26.
$3.5 million renovations are continuing this fall at FedEx Park Avron Fogelman Field as part of the program’s transformational plan. The project was made possible by generous donations from Memphis businessman, philanthropist and lifelong-baseball enthusiast Avron Fogelman and stadium namesake FedEx. Renovations are scheduled to be completed prior to the 2023 spring season.
