One Memphis staffer gets D2 HC job

He looks to be keeping it quiet until after the bowl game, but Sr. Offensive Analyst Quinn Gray Sr. looks to be the next Head Coach at D2 Albany State. Coach Gray was the QB coach at Alcorn St. before coming to Memphis. He also considered to be the best QB to ever come out of FAMU and played 6 years in the NFL. So congratulations early to coach Gray.

Tiger Nation,

With the regular season behind us and our ninth-consecutive bowl game on the horizon, I wanted to take the opportunity to reach out to you, our fans, and provide some perspective on our football program. As Coach Silverfield stated recently, bowl eligibility is our minimum standard. But he, I and everyone in the Memphis Football family are not striving for minimum standards. To be clear, our shared goal and expectation remain for Memphis to be the top program in our conference and compete annually on the national stage.

We have real, tangible reasons to be optimistic about next year and the future of our program under Coach Silverfield’s leadership. We have a strong core group of returning players at key positions. We have a demonstrated track record of strong recruiting and expect that momentum to continue. Perhaps most importantly, our players truly care and never give up. This was evidenced to me by how clearly painful each loss was in the locker room after games, especially this last one at SMU. The special young men in this program believe in Coach Silverfield, his staff and each other.

While we are all proud to be at a place where we have reached our ninth-straight bowl game, we know that “just okay” is not okay. While we all watched games where we were incredibly close to additional victories, we know that close is not good enough. I am confident that Coach Silverfield will critically assess himself and his program and identify and make the specific necessary adjustments to turn those close losses into victories. Our administrative leadership team and I have already begun discussions with Coach Silverfield on how we can best continue to support him and his program moving forward as well.

We know we are at a crucial time for our program and recognize the urgent need to return to competing for championships. Having been on the staff for seven of the nine bowl trips, Coach Silverfield understands the fabric of Memphis Football and its importance to our City and our fans. We all anticipate and expect a special year in 2023, and we need you and our City to continue to embrace and support that expectation as well.

Thank you for your dedicated support and passion for Memphis Football. Let’s get a bowl game victory and look forward to signing day, spring ball and next season together!

Football Tigers Tonight: Season post-mortem

We'll have Gabe Kuhn as a special guest. We'll talk about the 6-6 season. I'd like to discuss something I'd been thinking about lately. If NIL and instant transfer were in effect for the 2018 season, how many Tigers would have transferred before the 2019 Cotton Bowl season? Also, would Mike Norvell been able to keep the recruits/players he did during the NIL/Transfer Portal era?

What do you guys think?

A matchup with defending NCAA champion Ole Miss is scheduled for April 4 at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field and Memphis will travel to Oxford, Miss., for another matchup with the Rebels a week later on April 11. The Tigers will travel to Starkville, Miss., May 9 for another game against an SEC opponent with Mississippi State.

The Tigers will host four non-conference series at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field before opening conference play on the road March 31. Memphis begins its season hosting three games against Samford (Feb. 17-19), before welcoming Youngstown State to town for a four-game series that includes a double header (Feb. 24-26), Indiana State for a three-game series (March 10-12) and Oral Roberts for three games (March 24-26).

The Tigers will host four American Athletic Conference (AAC) opponents for home series including Cincinnati (April 6-8), Houston (April 21-23), South Florida (May 5-7) and Tulane (May 18-20). AAC road series for Memphis include matchups with Tulane (March 31-April 2), UCF (April 14-16), Wichita State (April 28-30) and East Carolina (May 12-14).

$3.5 million renovations are continuing this fall at FedEx Park Avron Fogelman Field as part of the program’s transformational plan. The project was made possible by generous donations from Memphis businessman, philanthropist and lifelong-baseball enthusiast Avron Fogelman and stadium namesake FedEx. Renovations are scheduled to be completed prior to the 2023 spring season.

Information on tickets to 2023 Tiger Baseball games will be released as we move closer to the beginning of the spring season.
